The growing access to a large variety of Earth Observation (EO) images supports a change in paradigm for the processing of remote sensing data. New processing methods have to be addressed and the methods need to exploit High Performance Computing platforms in a scalable and easy manner. Moreover, with the access to the EO data, innovative services have been developed and the operational aspects of service provisioning and the distribution process of EO data or application (value-added) products have been multiplied.
The objective of the session is to focus on the operational aspects of EO data services (in terms of data and products distribution and provisioning, and in terms of processing methods, e.g. big data processing, more specifically for urban applications, both a local and global scales. The session will include experiences from current EO data and service providers, discuss operational challenges and capabilities expected from the customers and focus on the long term future innovation of the EO industry and research community.
